Chain Chronicle The Light of Haecceitas as most of the surrounding media suggest is a mobile game adaptation. At first I thought this was slightly unremarkable as many anime are adaptations are light novels, or video games, but apparently mobile games are rarely adapted, and watching this I can sort of see why. Chain Chronicle (I haven't played it) from what I understand is a tower-defense game.   The anime isn't so much an adaptation, but basically the follow up story to what happens if your characters, fails to properly defend (I hope, I'm getting that right).

The anime begins at what could be construed as the end of the game. It is a final battle against the "Dark King". The battle concludes with our heroes losing, and all their progress being pushed back. Yuri, is the main character of the show, and is shaken from the effect of the lost of everything after this final battle.   He quickly shakes it off, and begins to put together a new army with new companions, and factions in order to take down the Dark King once and for all.

The suspense here is pretty negligible. As is the dramatic tension. The characters act like they are not good enough, because of the fall out from their prior failure, but at the same time, most of them shake it off quite quickly and move on. The animation for the show is quite solid, and everything from that perspective looks good. I'll admit sometimes I'll take a look at something and it will strike my interest, and that's what happened here, a few episodes in, and I realized that while it's entertaining, there wasn't much to go on. I've seen similar series going decades back do it better, from world building and characters beyond.

Funimation presents the Blu-ray in a 1:78:1 1080p transfer that looks solid, colors pop, detail is fine, blacks are good, Audio is presented clearly with English  and Japanese tracks. There are also 3 films, plus trailers, and other goodies as extras.
