The Film (4/5)

Ocean's 8 is the first "spin-off" film from the George Clooney Ocean's films. The film follows Debbie Ocean, Danny's sister, as she and her all female band of both professional and new criminals plan a heist of the Met Gala. The film has all the hallmarks of an Ocean's movie; montages, jaunty soundtrack, various scene transitions and charismatic criminals.

The cast is spectacular. All these ladies have their own personalities and quirks. Sarah Paulson's character, however, is a bit flat. Upon further pondering, I realized I have known women in real life who seem vanilla and forgettable yet have interesting lives no one suspects. Unfortunately, this type of character isn't the greatest casting decision for a powerhouse like Sarah Paulson, but with a cast like this, someone has to be the boring friend.

Audio/Video (4.5/5)

Video is 2:39:1 1080p AVC encoded transfer keeping true to the OAR of the film. It was shot digitally but has been altered to look like film with the detail and clarity of digital. It holds up fairly well from theater to television, but some of the colors didn't seem as magical as when I viewed it in the theater.

The English track is Dolby TrueHD 7.1.  It sounds clear and crisp. At no time did I need to adjust my volume

Extras (3/5)

The were featurettes and a few deleted scenes, but overall, the extras were lacking. The best parts were interviews with the actors and behind the scenes shots/extra takes. I wanted SO MUCH more behind the scenes, I bumped the rating from 2.5 to 3 since the snippets given were gems. All the ladies in this film have great a sense of humor and it shows in their interviews.

Overall

Other critics seem to feel this is not as good a film as the original trilogy. I disagree. This film is fun and looks great. I have seen this movie several times, both on my own and for review, and it have still found things I didn't notice before. I would put it behind Clooney Ocean's 11. I honestly couldn't remember what happened in the second and third movies and once reading the synopsis, realized I had forgotten the second film entirely. Ocean's 8 will not be a film like that for me. I will definitely watch it when it come on TV. If you haven't seen this film, I'd say rent it somewhere. If you like it enough then, but the digital. The Blu-Ray doesn't really have enough features to warrant the price
