There is that long-standing cliche to not judge a book by its cover. I try to live by that, but some time a cover looks cool enough, and is aesthetically appealing enough that one sort of knows the contents will be pretty damn awesome. When the Girl in Twilight dropped at my door, the colors and simple image on the cover screamed that I would probably like at minimum the animation, and at a whole the vibe of the show. Needless to say as soon as I could find time to throw myself into the show, I did.

The premise of the show is pretty straightforward, Asuka and her friends Chloe, Yu, Mia, and Nana belong to the Radio Research Society. They are aware of an urban legend stating that if you go to a certain temple and set your radio to a specific station at 4:44 you will be transported to a new dimension. This mostly fails for the girls, until well, it suddenly doesn't and they find themselves in a world unlike their own. A world that is quite post-apocalyptic and where Asuka has another version of herself Asuka-X, a hero, the Girl in Twilight.

The series took a few episode to really settle into a tone that I found interesting. The first episode was basically all set up to display the dimension hopping at the center of the show, after that it was on. There are a few episodes that have a comedic, more light tone coupled with action and adventure. However, as things progress the series becomes darker, and the episodes become more dramatic and suspenseful.  Once the series gets going,  it is almost impossible not to binge all 12 episodes (I would say episode 4 is where this one kicks into high-gear).

Sentai Filmworks presents the Girl in Twilight with a very nice 1:78:1 1080p transfer. Detail is excellent, colors are nicely reproduced, and I did not detect any issues.  Audio is presented in a DTS-HD MA Japanese audio track. Everything here sounds great, without obvious issues. Extras include the standard clean opening and closing. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
