    The Point was first introduced to me, by my girlfriend, now wife, around the time we first started dating. She saw a copy of the DVD at one of her excursions to the now sadly defunct Boogie-Woogie CD in Sarasota, Florida, and had fond childhood memories of the film. After the first viewing we would have that night, I would find myself hooked on the film's charms including its amazing Harry Nilsson soundtrack.

   The film opens with a Father (voiced by Ringo Starr) telling a story to his son, who is reluctant to hear it, and would rather be watching TV. This story involves a boy named Oblio, who comes from a land where everyone has a point on their heads. Oblio, however, was born without one, and uses his dog "Arrow" as his "point". The father of one of the local children, uses his power in the community to drive Oblio out, and into the world where nothing has a point, where Oblio learns about the diversity of life itself.

    The Point is such an amazing, yet simple children's film. The animation carries a simple, but wonderful style that sort of channels The Beatles animations from the 60's from a stylistic perspective. It's quite cute, and fun. Of course, the star of the show is the Nilsson songs that populate the film, and really made it.

    The Blu-ray from MVD Rewind is completely necessary considering that it is 2020 and we have been saddled with just SD material until now. That being said the best material available was only a 16mm print, so keep your expectations in check. This Blu-ray is quite grainy and there is damage from the source material, this is mostly apparent early on, but looks better as time goes on. Audio sounds solid as it should. Fortunately, there are quite a few extras on this disc including a good number of featurettes, interviews, and trailers. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. You need this.
