The Series (3/5)

Chivalry of a Failed Knight follows Ikki and Stella two students at the Hagun Academy. This school teaches its students to become "Blazers", or basically people who can create metaphysical weaponry projected from their soul. Stella is an A-Ranked (highly ranked) student, while Ikki is an F-Ranked (low ranked) student so when they are forced to be roommates, this proves to be an unhappy marriage at first, especially when Stella loses in combat to Ikki, and is first forced to be his servant due to a bet they made, and then his equal due to his terms.    The two eventually decide to become friends, and partner together to break boundaries in the school and obtain higher rankings.

Chivalry of a Failed Knight is sort of a mix between a magical academy,  tournament anime, and a harem. The show is reasonably entertaining at times, but for frequent viewers this is nothing they haven't seen before. The tournament and battle scenes are interesting, but the best moments of the show seem to be the infrequent character moments. The show is based on a light novel series which is around 11 volumes right now and still continuing so maybe we'll see more of this in the future which will expand further on these characters and this world. Until then  there is not much to go on.

Audio/Video (4/5)

The video is presented in a solid 1:78:1 1080p AVC encoded transfer preserving the OAR of the series. The Blu-ray has decent detail, excellent colors, and deep blacks.  The audio is presented in both Japanese and English DTS-HD MA 2.0 tracks and both sound quite solid (though my preference as always is the original Japanese).

Overall

Chivalry of a Failed Knight is sort of a cliched mix of harem, tournament, and magical academy anime. It has some nice character moments to recommend it on, but overall it's sort of by the numbers anime. The Blu-ray looks and sounds solid, but it is from 2015, so not a lot of restoration (any) is needed. Only a clean opening and closing is included. This one is rental only.
