The Series 5/5

Code Geass : Lelouch of the Rebellion has to be one of the finest anime series of the post-2000 period, for while it does many things that are derivative of other series and materials (think V for Vendetta and Evangelion), it remixes them enough to create something new and exciting.  Funimation has released Code Geass on DVD and Blu previously, but now has reissued the title in a non-limited edition for fans looking for a cost-effective pay to buy the series on Blu-ray.

Code Geass follows LeLouch a a former prince who is sent to Japan following his Mother's assassination, and lives life discretely at an academy. One day he accidentally finds himself involved in a chase, that ends when he attempts to rescue a young woman who upon what appears to be her death gives him a power known as "Geass". This power allows him single use mind-control over an individual. LeLouch uses this power to become "Zero" the leader of the Black Knights, and begins an open rebellion against the Holy Britanian Empire, to both free Japan, create a society that would be one that his sister Nunnaly could live in, and also find out who assassinated his Mother..

Code Geass (the 2 season original series). Is just an amazing series all the way through. The animation by Sunrise studios is top notch. The writing for the series is amazing with much depth to the characters especially Lelouch who will do anything to achieve his goals, even though it turns him into a much darker, and maligned individual in the process. The series is full of political intrigue and loaded with twist and turns.

Audio/Video (4/5)

Code Geass comes to Blu-ray in excellent 1:78:1 1080p AVC encoded transfers preserving the OAR of the original broadcast. Everything here looks quite excellent, detail is superb, colors pop, and I could find nothing really to complain about.

Audio is handled in in Code Geass S1 and S2 with an English True HD 2.0 track, and 2 Japanese tracks one True HD 5.1 the other like the English 2.0. All tracks sound excellent with dialogue, score and ambient effects coming through clearly. For Akito the Exiled there are 2 tracks Japanese and English True HD 5.1, both again sound excellent do great work conveying the sound of the series.

Extras (3/5)

Both series contain commentary tracks by the English voice actors. They both have art cards, and textless opening and closing as well as trailers.

Overall

Funimation has  gotten the complete Code Geass to Blu-ray in one set. Both Blu-ray's look and sound fantastic, and have limited, but decent extras. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
