The Film (2.5/5)

Confessions of a Teenage Peanut Butter Freak is an awkward and bizarre hardcore adult feature film from Jerry Abrams.  The film centers around the awkward and socially inept Billy (Zachary Strong), who has a very unnatural fixation for peanut butter.  Billy opens up to Priscilla (Helen Madigan), who's very into him, about his troubled sexual past.

Confessions of a Teenage Peanut Butter Freak came into existence because of Jerry Abrams' interest in Zachary Strong's love of peanut butter and designing an adult film around it.  Exactly what was going through Jerry Abrams' mind when he made such a decision is unknown.  Not only does the odd story involve a lot of peanut butter but the film has a lot of incest worked into the story and the sex scenes as well.

Yes, the story of a film called Confessions of a Teenage Peanut Butter Freak is as weird as one would think it would be.  However, there are some truly hysterical moments within the film.  However, the film can be hit or miss as it progresses.  For instance, John Holmes, who plays Billy's "friend" Jeff, has adopted an odd accent for the film that just sounds out of place throughout.

The sex scenes are, overall, not bad.  Some are played for laughs and not as erotic as others.  For some scenes, the heat that the scene generates will depend on exactly how you the viewer feel about incestuous activity.  Zachary Strong does fit the mousy character of Billy well and Helen Madigan is honestly great as the just as odd Priscilla.  Had Confessions of a Teenage Peanut Butter Freak not been an adult film, it probably would have achieved cult status by now.

Confessions of a Teenage Peanut Butter Freak is amusing despite being such an odd film and some very odd choices in how the film plays out.  Jerry Abrams clearly put his heart and soul into the film.  No matter how one looks at it, Confessions of a Teenage Peanut Butter Freak will never be in the same class as films such as The Opening of Misty Beethoven.  However, for viewers who like campy adult films, for the sheer enjoyment of the campiness of the film, Confessions of a Teenage Peanut Butter Freak will be an enjoyable watch.

Audio/Video (5/5)

Vinegar Syndrome has done an excellent job with their DVD release of Confessions of a Teenage Peanut Butter Freak.  Vinegar Syndrome has used a 2K composite scan from 16mm and 35mm vault elements for their maser for this release.  Vinegar Syndrome has restored, via a composite scan, Confessions of a Peanut Butter Freak to how Jerry Abrams has originally intended the film to be prior to distributors cutting the film up and the later added shot on video new opening that all the other DVD releases thus far have contained.

Confessions of a Teenage Peanut Butter Freak is presented in the academy aspect ratio of 1.33:1 in 480p.  The image contains grain and some flickers on the screen.  The colors in the film look great and natural.  The film has a very uniform look.  Honestly, it is impossible to tell which portions came from the 16mm elements and which portions came from the 35mm elements.

Confessions of a Peanut Butter Freak is presented with an English Dolby Digital 1.0 monaural audio track.  The audio contains a hiss that is not obstructive and the dialog in the film is clear and easy to understand at all times.

Extras (4/5)

Vinegar Syndrome has included two extras on this release.  There is an audio interview by Casey Scott with Zachary Strong that runs for almost 91 minutes and an audio interview by Casey Scott with Molly Seagrim that also runs for almost 91 minutes.  The two interviews contain a wealth of information about the film and Zachary Strong, Molly Seagrim, and Jerry Abrams.

Overall

Confessions of a Teenage Peanut Butter Freak is a unique and odd adult film.  The film has moments of sheer awesomeness and moments when the viewer asks themselves why are they viewing the film.  As to whether Confessions of a Teenage Peanut Butter Freak is a title you are going to want to add to your collection or avoid like the plague is a hard question to answer.  If you are going to watch Confessions of a Teenage Peanut Butter Freak as you would other cult adult films such as Thundercrack!, you will probably love this film.  Otherwise, you may want to pass.  As for the edition itself, Vinegar Syndrome has done a beautiful job with the release that is well worth the money.
