Doreiku is an anime about a group of people who are seeking new kinds of sexual thrills. They do this through a retainer-esque device called an SCM - Slave Control Method. The first episode brings us into the life of Eia, her boyfriend, and how they use this to bring more intensity to their relationship. The general premise is this, the SCM fits into your mouth, and another person will wear one as well. The two then play a game, and the winner of that game becomes the dominant, while the other becomes their slave for however long the winner pleases.
The show is based on a 10 volume manga series called Slave District - 23 Slaves and Me. The show was originally broadcast in the 2018 season, and consist of 12 episodes. The animation here is solid, though since it veers into Hentai territory, it seems to have had a lower budget, and that occasionally shows through. The series does not have a main character, nor a narrative line to connect with. Rather, each of the 12 episodes seems to be more about upping the weirdness of each situation from the last.
Once I caught on to the fact that Doreiku was anything but straight-forward I found myself able to dive into the series, and enjoying it. The series has just an atmosphere of sleazy weirdness that is the kind of thing that I just dig right into. The central premise of the SCM device also adds an interesting layer to the whole series.
Sentai Filmworks presents Doreiku in a solid 1:78:1 1080p AVC encoded transfer that looks quite decent. Colors are well reproduced, and detail is fine. Audio is handled by a DTS-HD MA 2.0 track in English, alongside the same in Japanese. Everything here is quite solid without any obvious issues. Extras include a clean opening and closing.
