Emanuelle, played to perfection by the legendary Laura Gemser is a fashion photographer with journalistic aspirations. In this case she decides to go to Europe (She's not in America long) to investigate the harem of a wealthy businessman. This leads her after further investigation to a snuff film ring run by the wealthy and elite.
Joe D'Amato directed 5 films with Laura Gemser in their "Black Emanuelle" series. Emanuelle in America is the third, and quite possibly the most notorious of the sequence (though, Emmanuelle and the Last Cannibals could also fight for that title). The film is what I'll refer to as shower sleaze, meaning after watching it you will probably want to take a hot shower with a piece of steel wool to get the dirtiness of this film off.
The film is notorious for having loads of sex scenes, both softcore and hardcore, lesbian, straight, plus orgies. Of course, one of the film's most notorious sequences involves a naked women masturbating a horse named Pedro, while Emanuelle watches on. Outside of that Emmanuelle in America has some pretty tough to watch snuff-esque sequences that really up the brutality of this one.
Laura Gemser is, of course, excellent as Emanuelle. She spends a good majority of the film in various states of undress, which should certainly please exploitation fans. Joe D'Amato, not knowing for being the most artistic of directors does quite well giving a solid look to the film, and maintaing a pacing so that viewers are rarely bored, especially in the film's second half.
Mondo Macabro do fantastic work with their release of Emanuelle in America. The film is presented 1:85:1 with a 1080p AVC encoded transfer preserving the OAR of the film. Everything here looks quite pristine, detail is excellent, colors are well-reproduced. Audio is handled with Italian and English HD audio and sound fantastic. Extras include an interview with David Flint, there is also a fantastic, in depth audio commentary by Nathaniel Thompson and Bruce Holecheck. Lastly there is an interview with D'Amato, and a still gallery. Emanuelle in America is pretty much as sleazy as cinema gets, it also is wildly entertaining, and now on a well-restored Blu-ray edition by Mondo Macabro! Highly Recommended!
