The Series (5/5)

I feel like I should start calling these reviews "Gundam Virgin Diaries" or something similar.  Gundam 00 is my third Gundam series after Wing and Unicorn, and I thoroughly enjoyed it just as I did the other 2. Though I'm beginning to understand why people have referred to Gundam Wing as a lesser entrance in the franchise. That being said I've heard this series referred to a game-changer in the world of Gundam, as I progress further into this world, I'll have to go back at a later date for a rewatch once I am fully immersed in this franchise and universe.

I quite enjoy shows and movies that have a social subtext to them, and Gundam 00 is a reflection of our life and times, and issues that are affecting our world even though at this point it is 11 years old. It takes place in a world roughly 300 years into the future.   The series involves 3 Earth-based super-powers fighting for control over the resources that power our planet. This is after fossil fuels are long gone, and we are using orbital space elevators to use interstellar solar panels to give clean and efficiency power to all of mankind. Into this bourgeoning conflict comes a group called Celestial Being, and their Gundams who change the name of the game. OK, so aside from the subtextual reasons for me digging this one. The show is extremely well-written. The mecha designs and animation are quite strong. The score by Kenji Kawai is quite effective in its approach.

Audio/Video (5/5)

Right Stuf do seriously amazing work with their series of Gundam Blu-ray's and these are no different. These are presented 1:78:1 in 1080p AVC encoded transfers and are well-detailed, and popping with color.  The audio is presented with Japanese PCM tracks which sound fantastic, and also an English dub which sounds similar and also excellent. Both are clear and concise without obvious issues.

Gundam 00 has the same positives as Season 1. Excellent detail, bright well-reproduced colors, and no discernible issues. Audio is presented with English and Japanese audio which is well mixed and clear.

Extras (3/5)

Both season of Gundam 00 have the following extras, a clean opening and closings, Japanese commentary tracks, and some promotional videos.

Overall

Gundam 00 is an effective reflection on some of our own environmental, social, and political issues in the world of Gundam. The Blu-ray looks and sounds amazing, but extras are limited. RECOMMENDED.
