The Series (3/5)

Mobile Fighter G Gundam is a unique entry in the Gundam series. It takes place in an alternate timeline (As these series occasionally tend to) known as the Future Century.  In this timeline the nations of Earth have abandoned the planet as a livable resource, and have moved into space colonies. However, these nations view Earth as a repository for necessary resources, as such they began participating in international Gundam fights every 4 years for control of the planet and its resources. The current fighter from Neo Japan is Domon. He has come to Earth to fight with his Gundam, at which he is quite successful. However, he has an ulterior motive for his trip to Earth.

This is an oddity amongst Gundam shows, which are normally based around warfare itself, and the fallout from. This show rather infuses the Gundam series with martial arts cinema in tone, and creates something unique.  That being said, it's not the best Gundam series, and while the story is decent, it's not entirely compelling. However, the action sequences plus the stellar animation definitely make the show worth watching.

Audio/Video (5/5)

Right Stuf presents Mobile Fighter G Gundam in a spectacular 1:33:1 1080p transfer that really brings the shows visuals to life, colors pop, detail is excellent, black levels are inky and deep.

Audio is handled by LPCM Stereo tracks in English and Japanese both are quite solid with dialogue, score, and ambient effects coming through nicely.

Extras (1/5)

This release has a clean opening, clean closing, and that is all.

Overall

Mobile Fighter G Gundam was an attempt at a new direction for the Gundam series. It was not always successful, but it was always entertaining.  The Blu-ray looks and sounds fantastic, but is limited in extras. RECOMMENDED.
