The Series (4/5)
Scum's Wish is a 2017 anime series adapted from an 8 part manga series that began in 2012. Of course, I have not read the manga, as of yet, but this adaptation is one of the startling and unique animes I have seen this year. Not because of any specific quirks or gimmicks, but because of the stark sexuality (not nudity/fan service), and emotional complexity of the relationships on display.
Scum's Wish follows Hanabi a high school student who finds that her long time crush has graduated and is now her home room teacher. She desires him greatly, but finds that he has his eye on the music teacher, Akane. Coincidentally, she meets a boy that also was a friend of Akane and had feelings for her. As they are both in a similar situation they decide to use each other for sexual and relationship needs, not so much as they desire each other, but due to the nature of their situation.
Scum's Wish is emotionally complex, and on a character level is one of the most interesting animes I've seen this year. It also has a very solid, dreamlike ambiance that stems from the animation, as well as the atmosphere evoked from the score, and writing. This is one series that felt like 12 episodes was enough, and concluded solidly.
Audio/Video (4/5)
Sentai Filmworks presents Scum's Wish in a 1:78:1 1080p AVC encoded transfer preserving the OAR of the show. Detail is solid, colors are nicely reproduced, and I did not detect much in the way of issues.
Audio is handled in both English and Japanese 2.0 DTS-HD MA tracks, both sound fine, but my eternal preference goes to the Japanese track.

Overall
Scum's Wish is a great find, and an amazing character based anime series. The Blu-ray looks and sounds fantastic, and is limited in extras. RECOMMENDED.
