Watch Me When I Kill follows Mara, a singer who one day goes to get some medicine from her pharmacist, and ends up witnessing his murder. The killer, of course, gets away, putting Mara on his kill-list. , Mara does not want to go to the police, so her boyfriend Lucas and her begin to investigate.
1977's Watch Me When I Kill is the first of 2 giallo entries by Antonio Bido, followed one year later by the Bloodstained Shadow. Both are minor classics of the genre, and so it is disappointing to find that Bido only directed 9 features, from which only 2 are related to giallo or horror.
Watch Me When I Kill is a complex and satisfying giallo mystery. The story and plot of the film are quite interesting, and are sure to keep most viewers engaged until the end. Bido's style is more work-man-like compared to contemporaries like Argento and Martino, but the visuals are solid, and there are some well-executed death scenes here. There is a solid Goblin-esque prog-horror score by a group with the Kraftwerk-inspired name Trans Europa Express.
Synapse Films presents Watch Me When I Kill in a brilliant 1:85:1 1080p AVC encoded transfer. Being that this is a Synapse Blu-ray I expect nothing, but fantastic work, and I got it here. The Blu-ray has colors that are nicely reproduced, deep blacks, accurate flesh-tones, and excellent detail. Audio is handled with a crisp and clear DTS-HD MA track in both English and Italian.
Extras include an isolated music track, an in depth and fantstic commentary by Mondo-Digital's Nathaniel Thompson, an interview with Mikel Koven on Watch Me When I Kill, 3 shorts films, trailers, TV, and radio spots, and a complete soundtrack CD. Synapse Films has done it again with an excellent restoration of a film that certainly needed it, and included an excellent slate of extras HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
