The Series (5/5)

Attack on Titan Season 2 pretty much picks up right after the first season ended.  There is a discovery of a titan within the city walls, and the survey corps needs to spend their time trying to figure out what that means, to fix that part of the wall, and to potentially find that loose titan. While this is going on, the narrative moves over to an attack on Castle Utgard which has great action, but also focuses on the fact that not everyone on the team is as human as they might appear.

Season 2 is only 12 episodes compared to the 25 of season 1, and yet not a moment is wasted. Some might feel different as the 4 characters who felt like mains feel less important to the overall narrative in Season 2, while less notable characters are given focus, but this makes the show feel more in line with other popular shows like Game of Thrones, and further gives us the feel that anything can happen to any of these characters, because they suddenly feel less important.

The other thing is how the show is not just building up the lesser characters, but building up its world and stories. So much of Season 2 is flashbacks and side narratives that don't entirely contribute to the main plot, but still feel important to the overall whole of what is to come possibly later on.  Now, if I'm making this sound like it's all story, and no fun action that is not true. The battle and action sequences of Season 2 are absolutely brilliant and there are plenty of them to go around. If you are a fan of the action-oriented moments in Attack on Titan you will not be disappointed in those moments throughout Season 2. I am happy to report that there will not be a 4 year wait for another season as it appears Season 3 is coming in July 2018.

Audio/Video (5/5)

Attack on Titan Season 2 is presented by Funimation in a splendid 1:78:1 1080p AVC encoded transfer preserving the OAR of the Blu-ray. Everything here looks quite spectacular, excellent detail, color reproduction, really nothing to complain about.

There are 2 audio tracks an English True HD 5.1 track that sounds fantastic with great sound separation, dialogue, and score. The Japanese track (which is my preferred track anyway) also comes through nicely.

Extras (3/5)

There is some decent extras here, including commentaries on a few episodes, behind the scenes supplements, interviews, and MORE.

Overall

Attack on Titan Season 2 is a fine follow up to Season 1, and just makes me want Season 3 all the more. The Blu-ray looks and sounds fantastic, and has a nice slate of extras. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
