The Film (5/5)

    Warner Bros. in the U.S. are the rights holder to the George A. Romero directed, Stephen King written anthology fright-fest Creepshow. For those not directly in the know about such things, Warner Bros. very rarely licenses out its films to third party distributors (like Synapse Films or Scream Factory) for distribution. So the current bare bones release from Warner Brothers is it for fans of the film with no third party able to step in, and acquire it for distribution and special edition release.

    Thus, U.S. fans who are not region free (Second Sight in the U.K. released an S.E.) are stuck with an extra less disc for one of the best and most significant horror films of the early 80's. That has been helped by Synapse Films in collaboration with Red Shirt Films (Michael Felsher) who have decided to put out the feature length Just Desserts: The Making of Creepshow on to it's own Blu-ray disc stateside, and make it an special edition that not only informs the viewer about the making of documentary, but also goes further into the making of Creepshow, and the creative personnel who brought that film to life.

    Just Desserts does exactly what it states on the package, it details the making of Creepshow. Felsher, has made a name for himself since his days at Anchor Bay entertainment in creating some of the finest behind the scenes documentaries in the business, and Just Desserts is no exception. The film is broken down into multiple sections detailing the making of the film, and discusses the creative process with those who made it. This includes director George Romero, and Producer Richard Rubinstein, SFX artist Tom Savini, and the cast of the film including Adrienne Barbeau and Tom Atkins. The most notable exception is Stephen King who apparently doesn't do interviews for DVD extras.

Audio/Video (4/5)

 Synapse Films has presented Just Desserts: The Making of Creepshow in a spectacular 1:78:1 1080p AVC encoded transfer. The film was shot in 2007, and as such looks quite solid. There is some archival footage that is of varying quality, but overall everything looks excellent here.  The audio is presented with a DTS-HD MA 2.0 track in English. Everything discussed comes through nicely without any audio hiccups.

Extras (5/5)

   Synapse presents the film itself with 2 commentary tracks,  an interview with Creepshow cinematographer Michael Gornick, extended interview footage from the film. There is a compilation of on-set footage from Creepshow, an episode of Horror's Hallowed Grounds showing off Creepshow locations with Sean Clark. Special mention must go to my favorite extra the Fangoria produced Scream Greats Volume 1: Tom Savini Masters of Horror effects documentary, and a 1982 behind the scenes featurette on the film. Also, a stills gallery.

Overall

    The extra features you always wanted for Creepshow, but never had have finally arrived. You just have to buy the Synapse Films Blu-ray of Michael Felsher's Just Desserts: The Making of Creepshow to get them. The film itself is a wonderfully entertaining in-depth documentary exploring the making of Creepshow. The Blu-ray looks and sound fantastic, and is loaded up with extras features. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
