The Series (4.5/5)

    Kokoro Connect is a beautifully executed slice of life anime series that follows a group of students in an after school club of their own creation, The Cultural Study Group. This group was created by 3 girls and 2 boys who could not find another club that suited their interest or their schedules. One day 2 of the girls enter the club, and announce that their souls have been swapped in each others bodies. Soon after that it begins to happen to other members of the group. As it turns out one of their teachers "Heartseed" is behind the soul-swapping for his own entertainment, and to also gain knowledge in the experiments. At first the kids have some fun, and gain new insights with the swapping, but over time the experiments become more intense, and more bizarre.

    I LOVED Kokoro Connect. I honestly never know what series are going to connect with me, and I'm going to marathon through, and which ones I'm going to just be lukewarm with, and I sort of suspected this would be the latter, as I'd seen Freaky Friday, and it's numerous spin-off's and remakes growing up, and thought nothing new could be added to this often ripped off genre.  I was quite wrong, and Kokoro Connect proved to be an absolute delight.

    The series begins with a slice of life vibe introducing us to the main characters, and begins with a light, more playful tone, but as the series and OVA play out. Heartseed's experiments become darker and more intense for a time. Later on he gets more bizarre and de-ages the club some by a year or two, and others to infants. This is where I knocked off half a point, because I felt this didn't quite work and felt more silly as the series was getting more serious. The animation isn't anything to write home about, but it does the job well enough depicting the characters and their world.  The series is well paced, and doesn't really feel boring, and these characters feel both real and entertaining enough to spend time with.

Audio/Video (4/5)

    Sentai Filmworks presents Kokoro Connect in a very solid 1:78:1 1080p AVC encoded transfer. The animation is solid, line detail is fine, and colors are well reproduced. No issues to report.

   Audio is presented with a Japanese DTS-HD MA 2.0 track. Everything sound clear, and I heard nothing that would strike me as an issue.

   Sentai presents the film with a clean opening and closing animation.

Overall

   A fun and quite clever slice of life anime series Kokoro Connect is wonderfully executed and has a solid Blu-ray from an audio/video standpoint. It again lacks extras, but the series is quite interesting, and comes RECOMMENDED.
