The Film (4.5/5)

Liquid A$$ets is a hardcore comedy by director and co-writer Walter Sear and co-writer R. Allen Leider, who also has a small role in the film as the drunken actor Rasputin.  Walter Sear made the movie with his collaborative partner Roberta Findlay filling the positions of the cinematographer, producer, and editor for Liquid A$$ets.

Liquid A$$ets is an adult take on Mel Brooks' 1968 film The Producers.  Don't take this to mean that Liquid A$$ets is a “spoof” of The Producers as so many adult movies that take on a mainstream film are these days.  Liquid A$$ets is a stand-alone adult film with a full, and original, plot that can be seen without having any first-hand knowledge of The Producers.

The plot for Liquid A$$ets has Mr. Cashbox (Bobby Astyr) who has just been informed by Lawyer Fillpots (Ron Jeremy) that he is in deep trouble with the IRS unless he can manage to "lose" a lot of money.  Lawyer Fillpots hooks up Mr. Cashbox with Rufus P. Quim, a tax loophole lawyer, who convinces Mr. Cashbox his best bet is to "invest" his money in a theatrical play that is doomed to fail miserably.

Enter Stan Slofsky (Rod Pierce) and his assistant Bessie (Sharon Kane), who are trying to get funding for Stan's play Peace and War about the intimate lives of the tzar's family during the last days of the Russian revolution.  To ensure the utter failure of Peace and War, Rufus Quim insists the lead be played by his sister Tootsie Lamarr (Veronica Hart), the worst actress ever.

If being viewed as an actual film for entertainment purposes by someone who doesn't mind hardcore sex in a movie, Liquid A$$ets is an excellent film.  Liquid A$$ets is genuinely funny and features a story that will entertain viewers, even those familiar with The Producers that know what is going to happen during Liquid A$$ets.

The cast does an excellent job with their roles during the non-sexual performances.  All of the cast members bring their characters to life during the film and can deliver their lines with the proper comic timing.  The sets and locations used for the film are superb.  Each one fits the scene perfectly and helps elevate the movie above the average adult films at the time.

Where Liquid A$$ets falls flat are the sex scenes.  The sex scenes coming up short isn't the fault of the cast.  The cast of the film has shown themselves to be excellent sexual performers in other films.  It is due to Walter Sear and Roberta Findlay, who was known to be less interested in the sex scenes.  The sex scene with Bobby Astyr and Samantha Fox is well shot; however, all the rest of the sex scenes feature a lack of good angles and a feeling of disinterest in general.

As long as the sex scenes aren't a necessity for you to enjoy an adult feature film, Liquid A$$ets is a winner that will easily entertain you.  If you fast forward to the sex scenes, give Liquid A$$ets a pass.

Audio/Video (5/5)

Vinegar Syndrome has released Liquid A$$ets as a Blu-ray and DVD combo pack; both the DVD and the Blu-ray contain the same material.  Vinegar Syndrome has done a beautiful job with their combo pack release for Liquid A$$ets; they have used a 2K scan of the 35mm camera negative for the release.  Liquid A$$ets is presented in the anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1 in 1080p on the Blu-ray and 480p on the DVD.  Vinegar Syndrome has put a warning at the beginning of the film letting the viewer know that some shots and scenes have image stability issues that were introduced by the camera equipment and not by Vinegar Syndrome.  Honestly, the film looks beautiful!  There is grain in the image with minimal print damage and artifacts.  The colors in the film are vibrant and look excellent.

Liquid A$$ets is presented with an English DTS-HD Master Audio 1.0 monaural audio track on the Blu-ray and an English Dolby Digital 1.0 monaural audio track for the DVD.  The sound presentation is excellent without noticeable defects.  The dialog in the film is clear and easy to understand at all times.

Extras (4/5)

Vinegar Syndrome has curated an excellent set of extras for this release.  There is a feature-length commentary track with Roberta Findlay and Casey Scott.  There is an extensive audio interview with R. Allen Leider and Joe Rubin that lasts for 68 minutes.  There is a 15-minute featurette "Getting the Big Part: An Interview With Veronica Hart."  The theatrical trailer is also included on the release.

Overall

Liquid A$$ets is a funny and enjoyable adult take on Mel Brooks' The Producers; as far as watching the film, as an actual film goes, Liquid A$$ets is a winner.  However, when it comes to the sex scenes, Liquid A$$ets falls on the short side.  If one likes adult feature films to enjoy as an actual feature film, Liquid A$$ets is well worth watching; if the sex is all that matters, you'll want to pass on this title.  As for the release itself, Vinegar Syndrome has done a spectacular job that is well worth purchasing.
