The Film (3.5/5)

    Paterson is a bus driver in the city of Paterson, New Jersey. He lives a simple life with his wife Laura, where he gets up, drives the bus, goes home, has dinner, and takes his English bulldog Marvin for a walk to the neighborhood bar and has a single beer before going to bed and starting the process over again. Laura, his wife, is a sort of manic dreamer who creates crafty projects around the house, designs her own clothes, and is making cupcakes for a bake sale at the end of the week. She is also learning the guitar. Paterson is also a poet, who in his downtime at night, and on his lunch breaks writes poetry inspired by Paterson native William Carlos Williams.

    Paterson is the latest film by director Jim Jarmusch (Only Lovers Left Alive, Down by Law), and is very much in the mold of his previous works.  Some of his prior works have taken place over the course of one night such as Night on Earth which tells 5 stories all over the world during the same night time hour, or Mystery Train which tells the story of one Memphis night, and each share the sound of a single bullet being fired. Paterson showing Jarmusch's love of rhythm and structure takes place over one repetitive week in the lives of Paterson and Laura with little minor differences as we get to know these two and their lives.

   The film is definitely in the Jarmusch mold with his visual style firmly intact. The film practically opens with a distant walking shot of Paterson walking to the bus depot he works which echoes back all the way back to Stranger Than Paradise. The film is quite a solid affair from the director. Performances for the most are solid, Driver really hits home with another understated Jarmusch protagonist. Farahani also does quite decent work with her performance as Laura. The score by Jarmusch's band Squrl was quite effective, and fit the tone of the film quite well.

Audio/Video (4.5/5)

    Paterson is presented 1:85:1 in a 1080p AVC encoded transfer. Everything looks quite solid here, detail is excellent, colors are natural and reflect the look of the film. There is some minor softness, but that in inherent in the look of the film.

    Audio is presented with a DTS-HD MA 5.1 track in English.  Everything comes through with no complaints.

    There is nothing on this disc.  Which is insane, getting Jim Jarmusch to participate in extras is not that difficult.

Overall

   Paterson is 2nd Jim Jarmusch release to end up in my mailbox in one year, I think that is a record as far as new releases from this director are concerned. Paterson is a solid film from Jarmusch, the Blu-ray looks and sounds excellent, but has ZERO EXTRAS. Look, I want anyone reading this to either buy or rent this, because the new Jim Jarmusch is ALWAYS worth seeing, but I can't fully recommend the disc, because of the lack of extra content, still... RECOMMENDED.
