The Film (4/5)

    Sing is the latest film from Illumination Entertainment who have burst on the animation scene since 2010 with the Despicable Me series of films, and now have had a back to back run of films with The Secret Life of Pets, and Sing. Sing follows a pig named Buster Moon, who runs a music production business. The business has not quite worked out for him, and as such he is trying to regain its success with a singing  contest, not unlike the American Idol type stuff currently on TV.  He offers a small $1000 prize, but due to a typographical error on the part of his secretary ends up offering much more than that, which he cannot afford to pay out. Fortunately, that has also made the contest into a major event, and gotten loads of animals interested in participating.

    Sing is a huge love letter to music. From the beginning to the end, this film shows its enthusiasm for the musical form, and it will certainly have fans of all ages getting excited alongside the contestants in its fictional context. The film itself is absolutely fantastic, and plays better than a lot of typical family fare. It offers a lot of depth of character giving many of the contest participants complete back stories, that help the audience understand their perspectives, and why each could and should come away a winner.

    The voice work here from singing to dialogue is pitch perfect. Direction is excellent, and keeps things flowing from one moment to the next without ever creating a lull. Animation really shines creating something that is sure to keep kids interested from the first moment to the last.

Audio/Video (4/5)

    Universal presents sing in a splendid 1:85:1 1080p AVC encoded Blu-ray transfer. Everything looks excellent here for the most part. The colors pop, details are excellent, and blacks are quite deep. Audio is handled by Dolby Atmos and a English DD 7.1 track. Everything sounds excellent with crystal clear audio throughout, and no issues to pick apart.

Extras (2.5/5)

    Not too much here, mostly targeted at kids we get a music video some sort films, character profiles, and not much more than that.

Overall

    Sing is an excellent family film, that is sure to get a lot of rewatches for those of you with kids.. The Blu-ray looks and sounds great, but is lacking in extras. RECOMMENDED.
