The Film (4/5)

    OK, so the general consensus is that "kids these days" with easy access to the internet also have very easy access to porn. That much is true. I grew up right as the internet was getting big, and didn't get access until I was 17, so it didn't play heavily into my porn viewing until much later.  I did get access to porn pretty easily though my parents hacked cable box, but the first porn tape I ever owned that I bought from another A/V student at my high school was an 80's Ginger Lynn porn called "Ginger on the Rocks". So needless to say when Vinegar Syndrome announced a Blu-ray restoration of another Lynn title, 1985's Steven Scott directed Trashy Lady, I knew I had to check it out.

    The film stars Harry Reems as Dutch, a gangster who finds himself suddenly single during a "Gathering of the Brotherhood". He will not be seen during the event without a woman on his arm, so in order to get himself a girlfriend he hits the floor of the nightclub where the event is hosted, and finds himself Katherine, a cigarette girl played by Ginger Lynn.  The problem is that Katherine is a good girl, and Dutch needs a "trashy lady", so he gets Rita (Amber Lynn) to tutor her in the ways of a sleazy gangsters moll, so she'll be ready to accompany him during the Gathering.

    Trashy Lady is an exceptional example of what porn can be when it has aspirations beyond just the eroticism.  Trashy Lady manages to balance what feels like a halfway decent gangster film homage with an erotic film, and maintains that balance quite well. The film's production values are quite solid, with the set design, and costuming looking quite excellent for the most part. The performances from the cast certainly fit the roles they are playing. As far as the film’s sex scenes, they are well choreographed, and certainly flow well.  They do not feel like an after thought, and like a natural extension of the film itself.

Audio/Video (4/5)

    Vinegar Syndrome does a spectacular job bringing Trashy Lady to Blu-ray. The Blu-ray has nice stable colors, nice solid blacks, and excellent fine detail. There is a solid organic grain structure at play, and aside from some minor damage from the source nothing to complain about.

    The DTS-HD MA 1.0 track in English is similarly well restored with dialogue, score, and ambient effects coming through nicely. I did not detect any instances of pops, cracks, or hissing on the track.

Extras (3.5/5)

    Vinegar Syndrome have put together quite a nice slate of extras for this release. There are 2 commentary tracks here. The first with Tom Howard and David McCabe, the second featuring Bill Margold and Herschel Savage. We also get a 1971 short feature from Steve Scott called Coming West.

Overall

    Vinegar Syndrome does their usual excellent work bringing the Steve Scott directed, Ginger Lynn starring Trashy Lady to the Blu-ray format.  The film looks and sounds excellent, and has a slim, but satisfying slate of extras.  RECOMMENDED.
