The Series (2.5/5)

    Wolf Girl and Black Prince is a high school set anime series that follows a young 16 year old girl Erika, as she attempts to navigate the difficult and demanding world she is in.  As the series begin she is starting a new year at the school, and is determined to make it a good one. In this regard, she makes friends with two of the popular girls who are fascinated with boys and boyfriends.  

    Erika, though she has no boyfriend at the moment pretends that she does, and even produces a picture of him. Unfortunately for her, the picture ends up being of a boy that actually does go to her school. His name is Kyoya, and he is actually willing to be seen with her, and act the part of her boyfriend, but for a price.Though the price Kyoya asks is not sexual in nature, it is demeaning toward Erika, and gets increasingly more so as the series progresses, that was my biggest overall problem with the series as a whole.

 Further developing on from that point, was that the character developed what I will incorrectly define as a sort of "Stockholm Syndrome", and begin to find positive attributes in Kyoya, and find feeling for him early on.  Separating the show from the social aspects of it. The narrative is well defined, and the pacing is solid for the most part. The animation is quite decent throughout.  The show while cliché in the way it handles the characters and their relationships manages to still be entertaining on a base level.

Audio/Video (3.5/5)

    Sentai Filmworks presents Wolf Girl and Black Prince in an overall solid 1:78:1 1080p AVC encoded transfer.  The Blu-ray has excellent color reproduction, and fine detail, although there are some softer moments this is probably due to the nature of the show itself.  

    The audio is a DTS-HD MA 2.0 track in Japanese with optional English subtitles. The track is serviceable with dialogue and score coming through nicely.

Overall

    Wolf Girl and Black Prince is a series that is mildly entertaining, that ends up being  bogged down with ethical issues.  The animation is solid, but it doesn't really save it. Audio and video are of course solid, but extras are limited to a clean opening and closing. Not Recommended.
