The students of Class A have found their way onto the man-made island “I-Island”, which serves as a tourist attraction and a headquarters for top scientists to research Quirks. Our hero Izuku is invited as a guest by All Might, and the two of them soon find themselves in big trouble. It seems All Might’s friend, the famous professor Shield has some past demons that are willing to rob the island. So now Izuku and friends have to stop the villians in a plot that slowly turns into Die Hard.

Two Heroes is a slightly misleading title. This adventure is really a side quest for Izuku and friends. Like many anime tie-in movies, Two Heroes is loosely connected to the series. It’s set between the second and third seasons of the show, but many first time viewers shouldn’t be too lost if this is their first exposure to the colorful cast of heroes. The story is easy enough to follow with just the right balance of action and drama to keep viewers invested.

My biggest issue with the film, and it’s a minor one, is that the story being told is basically a two part episode of the series, but with a higher budget. The colors are brighter, the animation is smoother, and the action scenes are inventive. But the story is just so so. Nothing is really lost or gained by it. There is no real change for the characters, and even All Might’s sickness, is hardly touched upon.

The film is highly entertaining with some wild gags. I viewed the DVD with a few fans of the series, and the group of us all had a fantastic time. The Die Hard centered last 45 minutes is a lot of fun. It was also humorous seeing our group of heroes in dinner jackets trying to stop a group of terrorists and being restricted by the lack of mobility. So if your a fan of the series, this movie is a no brainer addition to your collection.

The DVD by Funimation is well prduced and looks great upscaled to my Blu-ray player and TV. But it’s lacking in some respects. The English dubbed  5.1 Surround mix was a littled soft. Some elements of the musical score and action effects sounded muffled. The 5.1 Japanese Surround is spotless with clear audio. English subtitles are included. Extras are limited to trailers for other Funimation releases.
