The Series (2/5)

    Momokun as a baby was found by an elderly  couple on a riverbed sleeping inside a peach. Since she was abandoned by her birth parents they took her in, and raised her as their own. She has a positive existence, and grows to be smart, strong (and ummm busty).  The breeziness of her existence is ended when Oni begin to invade looking for pieces of a peach that will give power to their King.  She fights off their attack at her village, but realizes that other locales might not be so lucky, and goes out on her own to stop the Oni from their goal. Along the way she meets four maidens who have come down from the Heavens to find the peach pieces before the Oni, and begin to aid Momokun on her quest.

    Momokyun Sword is another light novel adaptation anime. The series also adapts the Japanese Momotaro folktale which has been done many times in the past. This version really adds nothing new to the equation other than a gender swap and an abundance of almost nudity. There are some cool action moments spread throughout the series, but overall it feels a bit too much of the same thing, and I mean from other animes and episode to episode. Sometimes I can recommend a series on the animation alone, but it's kind of flat for the most part. The attempts at comedy are mainly of a sexual nature, are quite broad and mostly falter.  Sometimes they will play the satire card, I can't tell if they are just succumbing to the trope, or actually satirizing it.   There are moments throughout the series that some fans might like it, but I feel like the series was an excuse to string together scenes of broad comedy, and overly sexual scenarios in a magical-action anime context.

Audio/Video (3/5)

    Sentai Filmworks presents Momokyun Sword on Blu-ray with a 1:78:1 1080p AVC encoded transfer preserving the shows OAR.  The Blu-ray looks decent, but the animation itself isn't the greatest, and the transfer replicates that, colors are stable and well reproduced, and what detail it present is fine.  The audio is presented in a DTS-HD MA 2.0 track in Japanese. The track itself is quite solid with everything being quite audible and no issues.

Overall

    Momokyun Sword adapts a piece of Japanese folklore that has already been done better elsewhere and gives it a gender swap. The show isn't all that interesting and relies mostly on broad comedy, satire, and boobs to get by. The Blu-ray looks and sounds decent, and there really aren't many extras to speak of.  RENTAL FIRST.
