Sentai Filmworks presents a Blu-ray of Season 1 and 2 of My Teen Romantic Comedy Snafu this month (November 2019). The show began airing in 2013, and has only run for these 2 seasons so far (I'm oddly surprised this wasn't labeled a complete series). The show follows Hachiman Hikigaya, a social outcast with a pessimistic worldview, a recent incident gets due to his perspective gets him sent to the schools "Volunteer Club" where he most perform acts that are to the benefit of others, in order to help develop him outside of his negative perspective.
The club is small, one other person to start, and finally a third by the end of the first season. It's with this expectation that I began to think I would be in for a harem-anime. However, what I got here is anything, but and oddly the series felt nothing like the expected romantic comedy. Instead we are given short episodic burst of story, some one episode, some 2-3 that detail the clubs latest acts and how they affect the asker, and the club members themselves.
While the stories are not original on their own, what we have is something that allows the characters from small background characters to our 3 mains to develop in a more realistic way, that never feels forced. The animation for the show is solid, though not original, but it does convey the atmosphere of the show reasonably well.
Sentai Filmworks presents My Teen Romantic Comedy Snafu with a solid 1080p AVC encoded transfer that is nicely colorful, and well detailed. Audio is presented in HD 2.0 in both Japanese and English, and sounds quite solid. Extras include a special opening, clean opening, and closing. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
