The Film (2/5)
"If ever you're asked wanna play truth or dare? Tell them you've seen the movie!"
Truth or Dare: A Critical Madness is a story about a burned lover gone bat-shit crazy and the spree of murder, disfigurement, and self mutilation that follows. Directed by Tim Ritter, right out of high school, Truth or Dare was specifically made for the budding straight to video market.
Now it does take some pretty heavy disbelief suspension to genuinely enjoy the movie, but if you've got the skills to do that, it can be a real treat.
Audio/Video (1/5)
This DVD looks like ass. It's a really shitty transfer presented in a mercilessly noisy, dark, nasty letterbox. It looks bad, which could be OK if you're used to watching your high mileage VHS version of the film, but as it was my first time with this one, I was irritated and distracted throughout the whole feature.
Extras (3/5)
The extras were the shining point of the DVD project. You really get pulled in through the making of documentary, and seeing the trailer reel with footage from the film, footage from the shot-on-video short that was turned into the feature, and seeing some footage from the sequel was a pleasant bonus. Hate to keep beating a dead horse, but i really wish it looked better.
Overall (2.5/5)
Overall, I would pass on this one, as a first time viewer of the film, until a better DVD version or a blu-ray drops. The film has some magic that could be appreciated if the DVD was watchable. If you remember this one from your younger days, or you just need to replace your busted-ass VHS copy, then you might have a decent enough excuse to pick this turd up.
