This is my first issue of the UK publication We Belong Dead that I’ve had the opportunity to look at and WOW, it’s a doozy. This Christopher Lee tribute issue kicks off with an examination of his work for Amicus Productions including Doctor Terror’s House of Horrors, The House that Dripped Blood, and several other classics. There are also articles on Night of The Big Heat, Rasputin the Mad Monk, To the Devil a Daughter, the Lee-Cushing dynamic, House of Long Shadows, etc.

Where the meat of this zine really gets thick and dripping with blood is in its heart. There are fan remembrances of meeting the man himself. There are personal stories of watching Lee’s classics on television as children. Rounding off the personal feel are contributions of portraits of Lee from his artistic fanbase.

The non-horror work of Christopher Lee is also examined in this issue such as his portrayal of Saruman the White and his controversial role as Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of modern Pakistan. There’s a huge article on Lee’s work with Italian and Spanish horror directors like Mario Bava and Jess Franco. Eurohorror fan favorites such as Terror Express and The Whip and the Body are talked about at length. And of course, no Christopher Lee issue would be complete without the classic, The Wicker Man.

All in all, We Belong Dead has an excellent and very professional layout and all of the contributors have thoughtful and passionate writing. Highly recommended.
